Dubbed “Hip-Hop’s First Godmother” by Billboard, singer and music producer Sylvia Robinson produced the first-ever commercially successful rap record: “Rapper’s Delight,” by the Sugar Hill Gang. And along with her husband, she co-owned the first hip-hop label, Sugar Hill Records.
Cathay Williams was the first and only known female Buffalo Soldier. Williams was born into slavery and worked for the Union Army during the Civil War. She posed as a man and enlisted as William Cathay in the 38th infantry in 1866, and was given a medical discharge in 1868.

The class of 2027 had 33 students eligible for the February Ice Cream Party. They had to read 100,000 words to qualify. If they attended the party before Christmas the goal is to read 100,000 more. Readers are Achievers.

Call me MiSTER and the Diamond Doves dressed in Red for the Great Kindness Challenge. The Diamond Doves presented Valentine's gifts to the Foster Grandparents.
James McCune Smith was the first African American person to earn a medical degree. He also started the nation's first pharmacy under Black ownership, and was the first African American to have their work published in a peer-reviewed medical journal.
After graduating from Oberlin College in 1850 with a literary degree, Lucy Stanton became the first Black woman in America to earn a four-year college degree.
