Making changes to lessen the impact: The April bond plan is $47.5 million less than the November 2023 plan! Many items that were in the 2023 bond plan have been eliminated in the new proposal to better align with the community’s desire to focus on academics. https://www.desotopsb.com/o/desoto-parish-schools/page/nd-bond-24-the-plan

The DeSoto Parish School Board is dedicated to being a good steward of taxpayer dollars and are committed to using our resources to provide excellent educational opportunities for our students. The cost to the taxpayer depends on the value of your home. For example, a $300,000 home in District No. 2 (North DeSoto) with a homestead exemption of $75,000 would have an adjusted taxable value of $225,000 which would be assessed at 10%. The increase from a millage of 3.6 to 22 would result in an annual increase of $414 per year or $34.50 per month. https://www.desotopsb.com/page/nd-bond-24-tax-impact

Good afternoon Griffins! Just a reminder that Monday will be a regular school day instead of parent teacher conferences in order to accommodate the missed instructional day earlier this week. Conferences can be scheduled on an as needed basis with your child's teacher. The Design on a Dime silent auction that was scheduled to take place on Monday evening will be moved to Field Day (May 10) in the upstairs lobby. Have a wonderful weekend!

Important Update: Regular Day of Instruction replaces Virtual Instruction: Monday April, 15: Due to Wednesday's dismissal and the limited number of quality instructional days remaining in the school year, we will shift our mode of instruction from virtual to a regular day of face-to-face instruction on Monday, April 15. This adjustment will require us to forgo Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences. If your family is in need of a conference time, please contact your student’s school to schedule a conference for a later date. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we make this adjustment in the best interest of student learning.

Superintendent Corley responds to questions about tax statements and clears up how to use the tax calculator to check your impact if the April 27 North DeSoto Bond Plan is approved. Featured Frequently Asked Question: The State of Louisiana usually requires districts to wait a year after a failed bond, how is the DeSoto Parish School Board able to hold another election so quickly? The State Bond Commission oversees all of the bond elections and issuance in the state. They met on February 15, 2024 and voted to allow the DeSoto Parish School Board to hold the April 27 election. This approval is largely due to the overall need in the district and the large change in scope and costs to the previous proposal. The Bond Commission does not always approve these follow-up elections, but felt that voters should be able to review the new proposal and cast a vote as soon as possible. https://www.desotopsb.com/page/nd-bond-24-faq-and-resources
