Featured Frequently Asked Question: Doesn't the district offer universal PreK? Can’t everyone attend PreK?
DeSoto Parish Schools are proud to offer Universal PreK, but sadly due to space constraints in District 2, while anyone can apply to be on the waiting list for PreK, we can no longer guarantee admission into PreK and are operating with a waitlist. A three-year-old option was available during the 2023-24 school year, but because of increased demand for four-year-old PreK and Kindergarten classrooms, the program has been eliminated for the 2024-25 school year. The bond plan includes expansions at the lower elementary to be able to offer additional sections of preschool and eliminate the waitlist.

Get your questions answered about the North DeSoto Bond Proposal that will be on the ballot for the April 27 Election during a community meeting on Tuesday, April 2 at 6 p.m. at North DeSoto Lower Elementary School.

Featured Frequently Asked Question: How is the April 2024 bond proposal different from the November 2023 plan that was rejected by voters?
The April 2024 bond plan is $47.5 million less than the November 2023 plan. The November 2023 proposal was for a total of $130 million and included a new high school( for 1200 students), improvements to the lower elementary school, and athletic spaces. The April 2024 proposal is significantly reduced in costs at $85.2 million.
Many items that were in the 2023 bond plan have been eliminated in the new proposal to better align with the community’s desire to focus on academics.

Featured Frequently Asked Question: If the bond proposes a millage increase of 22, wouldn’t the total millage be 25.6?
No. The current millage of 3.6 expires in December 2024. If approved, the $85.2 million bond will assess a total millage of 22, not an increase of 22. You can use the online tax calculator to calculate your impact and submit any questions to questions@desotopsb.com

The DeSoto Parish School Board is dedicated to being a good steward of taxpayer dollars and are committed to using our resources to provide excellent educational opportunities for our students.
The cost to the taxpayer depends on the value of your home. For example, a $300,000 home in District No. 2 (North DeSoto) with a homestead exemption of $75,000 would have an adjusted taxable value of $225,000 which would be assessed at 10%. The increase from a millage of 3.6 to 22 would result in an annual increase of $414 per year or $34.50 per month.

In December 2023, more than 600 community members participated in a survey to gather more information about the election results and priorities for a solution. Respondents overwhelmingly felt that the 2023 bond was too expensive for taxpayers and that they wanted to see a solution that was less than $100 million with more details available.
