Our LHS 4H Club Members have had a busy start to the Spring with livestock, shooting sports and cooking projects.

Clay & Farrah Usrey are no strangers to the livestock barn. Recently they competed at the LSU Livestock Show & came home with several awards with Poultry, Dairy, and Goats & Sheep. Also joining them this year was Kamyllia Chatman with her Poultry entry.

In Poultry, Farrah placed 1st Showmanship, Reserve Champion Jr. Showman, two 3rd place and a 6th place with birds. Clay placed 4th in Showmanship, two 1st place and a 2nd blace on birds, Breed Champion & Reserve Champion. Kamyllia placed 3rd in Showmanship.

In Dairy, Farray placed 1st in Showmanship and 3rd with both heifers. Clay placed 2nd place in Showmanship, 3rd & 2 6th place with his heifers and 4th with his cow.

With their goats, Farrah placed 4th in Showmanship and 2nd place Market Goat. Rounding out the LSU show, Clay placed 6th in Showmanship and had a 4th place lamb.

LHS was well represented at the Northern Regionals for Shooting Sports. Qualifying for State in Archery are Ryan Ward (FITA & 3D) and Ace Wheless (3D). In Air Rifle, Skylar Phillips & McKenzie Wheatley qualified for State in their disciplines. While, Hunting Skills only has a state competition, Clay Usrey placed 3rd overall in the State.

Lastly, LHS had 2 representatives on the first ever DeSoto Parish Cooking Club team that competed in the State 4H Cooking Challenge. Cash Wheless & Riker Rohrer teamed up with Cooper Hatcher, Stanley & Cooper Boyd, NDUE, to compete against 17 other teams in their division. The Menu Masters placed 3rd in their heat to advance to the finals. They came away with 3rd place finish overall. These young chefs were given 40 minutes to plan, prepare and cook a meal that consisted of an unknown ingredient in each round. After the cooking portion was complete, they gave a 5 minute presentation to the judges that consisted of nutritional knowledge and a total cost analysis of the meal.

If you see these young members out please congratulate them and continue to encourage them in their 4H projects. We are excited to see the growth and participation in not only our LHS club, but in the parish as a whole.

To join 4H a student must be entering into the 4th grade. Signups for next year will begin late summer. Be on the lookout for 2025 signup announcements on our webpage as well as our social media pages.
